Empowering Burn Survivors Through Skills Training
For the first time in history, the world came together last year to mark World Burns Week, a global call to action highlighting burns as a critical public health crisis.
In Ghana alone, thousands of individuals suffer from severe burns annually. Beyond the physical trauma, the scarring often results in deep social stigma, affecting survivors’ self-image, relationships, and overall quality of life.
In response, Beyond Burns International is proud to launch a 3-Day Skills Training Program tailored specifically for young burn survivors. This initiative aims to empower participants with practical, income-generating skills that promote financial independence and long-term reintegration into society.
This impactful program is being organized in strategic partnership with:
•The National Youth Authority (NYA) — the statutory body for youth development in Ghana. Through the NYA’s National Apprenticeship Program, we are ensuring sustainability and continued support for survivors beyond the training.
•The National Reconstructive Surgery and Burns Centre — who will deliver vital training on first aid and basic burns treatment. This equips participants not just with knowledge for their own care, but also the tools to become frontline advocates for burns prevention and early intervention in their communities.
Our goal is to support a minimum of 30 burn survivors in this first phase.
