WORLD BURNS WEEK – November 4-10, 2024
We are thrilled to announce the 2024 World Burns Week theme: “Burns: Tackling the Hidden Global Health Crisis.” This year’s focus is on raising awareness about the often-overlooked issue of burn injuries, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where the burden is most significant.
The Hidden Crisis of Burn Injuries
Each year, millions suffer from burn injuries, with an estimated 180,000 deaths globally. Most of these deaths occur in LMICs, where resources for burn prevention, treatment, and long-term care are limited. Burns are a leading cause of long-term disability, causing immense physical and emotional trauma to survivors and their families. Unfortunately, the disparities in access to care in LMICs only exacerbate this burden.
World Burns Week 2024 seeks to raise awareness about the global inequalities in burn care by focusing on this hidden crisis. We aim to galvanize collective action to improve prevention, treatment, and support for survivors everywhere.
Join Us for the World Burns Week 2024 Launch Event
To kick off this year’s campaign, we are excited to host the World Burns Week Launch Event on October 12, 2024, from 14:00 – 15:00 CET. This virtual event will feature two renowned guest speakers: Tom Potokar, a leader in global burn care from the UK, and Pragya Prasun, a passionate advocate for burn survivors in India.
This launch event will be a space for survivors, advocates, and experts to come together and shine a light on the challenges that burn survivors face, especially in LMICs. It is also an opportunity to share stories of hope, recovery, and resilience while fostering a sense of global solidarity in burn care advocacy.
