MATILDA BECOMES THE FIRST RECIPIENT OF BEYOND BURNS INTERNATIONAL’S FREE SURGERY INITIATIVE
A year ago, Matilda Oduro, a sixteen-year-old Ghanaian girl, became a victim of a devastating fire that destroyed her home in Mamobi, Accra. The fire also claimed the life of Matilda’s younger sister and left the family homeless.
Despite receiving some medical and surgical treatment at Ridge Regional Hospital, financial difficulties forced Matilda’s mother to manage her remaining wounds at home. Beyond Burns International visited Matilda and later consulted with Dr. Asiedu, the Plastic Surgeon overseeing her case. He supported the initiative and explained that after the initial skin graft, another surgery on Matilda’s knee was needed to improve her mobility.
Beyond Burns International funded Matilda’s skin graft, which was successfully completed on September 19, 2024. Matilda is currently recovering at Ridge Regional Hospital. Grateful, Matilda and her family expressed their appreciation to the foundation, stating that the surgery has given her renewed hope and the chance to pursue her dreams.
